Book IN DEVELOPMENT
Working title: What Determines You? — Understand the forces shaping your life, and change what happens next. The book argues a single proposition across five parts: our lives are far more caused than we like to believe — and seeing those causes clearly is not the end of freedom but the beginning of it. It draws on philosophy, systems thinking, the practice documented on this site, and an unusual laboratory: years of building artificial agents whose nature must be made explicit before they are allowed to act.
Part I — The Illusion of the Uncaused Self. The life you think you chose; the causes you cannot see; identity as prediction; why intelligent people repeat themselves. Part II — The Nature of Human Systems. Biography, biology, environment, incentives, relationships, status, memory, and narrative. Part III — Predictable Futures. Patterns as futures in disguise; the baseline scenario; the cost of not choosing; reversible and irreversible roads. Part IV — Engineering Agency. The Nature Method; the Personal Manifest; changing environments, rules, and identity; freedom without magic. Part V — Human Agency in the Age of AI. What artificial agents reveal; governed agency; the human difference; the road ahead.
The book is in development — it grows out of the advisory work, the essays, and the podcast. Join the waitlist to read chapters as they take shape.
